Joes Valley

Bouldering

Some of the world’s best bouldering

Nestled in the middle of the Wasatch Plateau at 7,000 feet, Joe’s Valley offers intrepid outdoor adventurers, most notably some of the best bouldering in the world.

The boundlessly diverse and top-tier bouldering routes in the area draw the biggest crowds of adrenaline seekers. Perfectly stable and grippy sandstone boulders with great landings litter the valley, providing many quickly and easily accessible bouldering routes.

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing that is done without harnesses or ropes. Boulderers solve “problems” by challenging themselves to define a path to the top of the rock in order to complete a climb. This sport is popular around the world, and Joe’s Valley is known for having some of the best “problems” in the world. The sport requires stamina and grip strength (strong fingers). Interested in seeing this sport in action? There is an annual bouldering festival in the fall that attracts some of the best boulderers around.

Nearby, Joe’s Valley Reservoir offers boating, fishing, and miles of off-road vehicle trails. The trails are also popular with hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Campers can enjoy a view of the lake and easy access to all the recreational activities Joe’s Valley has to offer.

Along the road to the reservoir is a monument to coal miners. Each canyon has a seam of coal running through it that has been mined over the years. The coal was then hauled by truck up to 250 miles. Mining dates back to 1875.
