Temple

Mountain

Temple Mountain is a geologic masterpiece. This spectacular geologic outcrop that was named by early settlers for its striking resemblance to a Mormon temple.

The mountain has a rich mining history and no shortage of interesting geological features. The area is littered with mining ruins, and attracts amateur and professional photographers looking for stunning settings for their lenses.

If you are looking for a good challenge, you can climb to one of the two summits, the view from both is outstanding. This is a technical climb and should only be attempted by experienced climbers taking the appropriate procautions.

The area is a popular destination for OHV riders and mountain bikers. Trails criss-cross and circle the mountain in all directions. While many come to the area in the summer months, trails can be crowded - and given the delicate nature of the natural ecosystems, it is imperative that riders stay in designated trails. To avoid the crowds visit in early fall or late spring.

The Temple Mountain area has multiple campgrounds, most of which are available on a first-come basis.
